It’s headed this way…

Merry Christmas

Stay Safe

You know, I really hate to make a posting like this during the Christmas season, but it seems to be open season for criminals.  More and more we are hearing about armed robberies and assaults in our sleepy little community.  Right here in Newport, there have been several incidents recently.

Within the last month my wife and I have had two separate profiling incidents at two different ATMs.  It is a time that I am thankful for my Second Amendment freedoms and the ability to carry concealed.  I tell every class, that I hope and pray that I never have to use deadly force, but the reality of it is that if it comes down to a criminal and me and my loved ones, I fully plan to win that fight.

Some advice… Maintain 360° awareness.  At home, at work and most importantly out and about.  We have heard stories from many of our students about incidents they have been involved in.  One fellow, an 88-year-old retired Army Master Sargent came to us wanting training.  He had an incident where some neighborhood thugs attempted to break into his home and rob he and his wife.  He told us that he “did not want to be a target”.

So here we are, smack dab in the middle of the holiday shopping season.  Crime is all around us.  My wife and I attended a crime prevention seminar for businesses put on by the Morehead City Police Department.  Not only did they do a fabulous job, but the businesses represented there told some very interesting stories.  You would not believe how much crime really occurs around here.  Please be careful in the following areas:

  • Parking lots of stores
  • ATMs
  • Intersections
  • In your place of employment (especially if it is a retail business)
  • at home

Yes, this means in Carteret, Craven, Onslow, Pamlico and surrounding areas.  We are not immune to crime.  Prepare yourself now.

Crime prevention is important, but so is home safety.  Take this Holiday Safety Quiz to check your own practices and routines.  Very good solid advice in there.  It will really get you thinking.  I took it and was honest about it.  I answered 90% safely.  Try it yourself.

We want to wish everyone a safe and a very merry Christmas and pray you will see many new years.
